Convert Excel to access with
4TOPS Excel Import Assistant

A common situation is where you have initially built a spreadsheet solution in Excel. However, the amount of data keeps growing and you will start to look for a database alternative to make the situation more manageable. Once the structure of the database, it's tables and relations, are set up you will have to convert your Excel data. In many cases this is a problem because you will have filled your spreadsheet much more liberally then is supported by the way you set up your Access tables. Problems you will encounter when you convert Excel to access are:

  • missing data where required
  • incorrect type of data
  • the need to fill Access columns with default data because info is absent in Excel
  • need to distribute information over normalized tables

Trying to use Access import spreadsheet wizard you will get loads of ignored records. Therefore you will need a more controlled approach. For this we developed 4TOPS Excel Import Assistant. After mapping Excel columns to Microsoft Access Fields you can start to convert Excel to access Moving row after row through your Excel table(s) you can instantly fill in missing data or alter erroneous data before transferring them to your database. By pressing 'Add All' the assistant copies record after record, only stopping if the data can't be added for one of the above reasons. You can then make a correction in the data transfer form showing the current row being importted and continue the processing by pressing  'Add All' again.
