Mail Merge Installer

The Access Mail Merge Installer is used to connect, update or disconnect Access Mail Merge from your Access database. In addition it has a feature to fix compilation state problems which may occur when you change the version of the referenced accessmailmerge mde library.

Start the Access Mail Merge Installer:

• Start > All Programs > Mail Merge for Microsoft Access > Mail Merge Installer

- or-

• double-click on C:\4tops\accessmailmerge\mailmergeinstaller??.mde

Activating Access Mail Merge with your Access database makes the following changes to it:

• sets a reference to the Access Mail Merge library (accessmailmerge*.mde)
• adds the 'accessmailmerge' menu or ribbon

Additionally, if selected (checkboxes), it copies

• the Mail Merge library
• Template and Process designer files

to the folder of your database for easy distribution.

Notes:

• (Access 2003/2007) Before using the Mail Merge installer you will temporarily need to change security settings in Trust Center:

1. click Microsoft Office Button
2. click Access Options
3.  click Trust Center Settings
4. choose "Enable all macros" in Macro Settings

• The Access Mail Merge Installer should be used to install a new 4TOPS Mail Merge version with your version. Always use the Fix button for this.

Database using mail merge

Select the Access database you want to use Access Mail Merge in.

Mail merge library

Select the Mail Merge Library file to set reference to.

Connect

• adds the menu accessmailmerge
• adds module modMailmergeWrapper
• Copies the library and tools files (if selected)
• sets a reference to the Access Mail Merge library (accessmailmerge*.mde)

Reconnect

1. Copies the new versions of library and tools files (if selected)
2. Refreshes the compilation state to match the new library
   1. Backups the database
   2. Opens the database, removes  the reference to accessmailmerge, closes the database
   3. Runs msaccess.exe /decompiles, opens the database, closes the database
   4. Runs msaccess.exe /compacts the database
   5. Opens the database, sets a reference to accessmailmerge, compiles and saves the database, closes the database.

Fix

Fix is a rather complex process which opens your database several times. This is necessary to prevent all kinds of errors which have to to with MS Access not completely recompiling it's code.

1. Backups the database
2. Opens the database, removes  the reference to accessmailmerge, closes the database
3. Runs msaccess.exe /decompiles, opens the database, closes the database
4. Runs msaccess.exe /compacts the database
5. Opens the database, sets a reference to accessmailmerge, compiles and saves the database, closes the database.

Disconnect

• removes reference to the Access Mail Merge library (accessmailmerge*.mde)
• removes the menu accessmailmerge
• removes module modMailmergeWrapper

Copy to folder of the selected database

copies

• Mail Merge library
• Template and Process designers

to the folder of your database for an easy distribution.
