This readme contains the information you need to start using the add-in: - Installing the Add-in - Preparing a database for the use of the Add-in - Start using the add-in Note: it may be useful to print this file for reference during installation. INSTALLING THE ADDIN The Add-in comes to you as a .exe (self-extracting executable) file. Depending on the configuration of your PC and security measures taken by your System Administrator, installation will be easy or take some extra effort from your part. Factors taht may complicate installation are: - users are not allowed to start .exe files - changes to the registry are not allowed - addin manager not installed - files may not be copied to a system folder - changes to the database are not allowed - ... Installation scenarios you can apply (described below, ascending order of effort involved) are: I. Installing from .EXE -or- II. Installing from .ZIP, alternative installation procedures II.1 run instalx.mde -or- II.2 use MS Access' Add-in Manager -or- II.3 set reference manually I. INSTALLING FROM .EXE: I.1 Start the self-extracting .exe I.2 Agree on conditions in the EULA I.3 Agree on preselected location to install the Add-In - or specify one. A message appears indicating if the Add-In has been installed successfully. The Add-in is now installed. Now prepare your database (see below). II. INSTALLING FROM .ZIP: Unzip the .zip file to a folder where you want to store 4TOPS addins. II.1 RUN INSTALX.MDE II.1.a Doubeclick the file in Explorer -or- II.1.b.1 Open MS Access, II.1.b.2 Open the instalx.mde file from Access (menu-File-Open) The Add-in is now installed. Now prepare your database (see below). II.2 USE MS ACCESS ADDIN MANAGER II.2.a Open an MS Access database. From the menu select: Tools / Add-Ins / Add-in manager. II.2.b Press Add new II.2.c Find the Add-in (in the folder you extracted the .zip to) II.2.d Select and Open it (II.2.e Close the Add-in manager.) -next- II.2.f Move the Helpfile to the add-in directory: II.2.f.a Locate add-in directory: II.2.f.a.1 Open the Add-in manager II.2.f.a.2 Press 'Add New...' button II.2.f.a.3 Click the 'Look In' listbox to see its location II.2.f.b Use Explorer to move the Helpfile from the Unzip-location to the add-in directory The Add-in is now installed. Now prepare your database (see below). II.3 SET REFERENCE MANUALLY II.3.a Open your database II.3.b Set a reference to the addin II.3.b.1 Open a new or existing module (or open the Debug Window, press ^G) II.3.b.2 From menu, select Tools - References II.3.b.3 if you have other 4TOPS addins installed, first uncheck these II.3.b.4 Set the reference to the .mda file II.3.b.4.1 Press the Browse button to find and select the .mda file II.3.b.4.2 In the popupbox 'Files of type', select 'Add-ins' II.3.b.4.3 Move to the folder you stored the .mda (addin) file in II.3.b.4.4 select the file and press OK Now the file is referenced. Next: II.3.c run the addins function 'ftStartAddin' II.3.c.1 if you opened the Debug Window, type '?ftStartAddin' and press enter -or- II.3.c.2 if you opened a module II.3.c.2.a type the following sub sub a ftStartAddin end sub -and- II.3.c.2.b run the procedure (put the cirsor in it an press F5 Note: you don't have to save the module II.3.d if you have other 4TOPS addins installed, now check these again A progress-bar appears informing you about the progress of the preparation. When it is finished, you are ready to use the add-in. PREPARING A DATABASE FOR USE OF THE ADDIN 1. Run the Add-in to prepare the database. 1.a Open the MS Access database. 1.b From the menu select: Tools / Add-Ins / [Name of Add-in ] TIP: You might want first to try the add-in on a test database. Also, you could use one of MS Access sample databases: Menu: File / New Database... , Tab Databases A progress-bar appears informing you about the progress of the preparation. When it is finished, you are ready to use the add-in. START USING THE ADDIN 1. Open a form, report, table or query 2. Select the action you want to start from the new toolbar
